Trial by winter

Patton, Anne 1942- (author.).

Summary: It's October, 1903. Snow is falling. On their isolated homestead, Dorothy Bolton and her family try to prepare for their first prairies winter. They have no idea how brutal the weather will be. With their money all spent, Dad and older brother Frank must leave to find work to Edmonton. Meanwhile, Dorothy, Lydia, and Mam try to stay warm in their poorly built sod house. When food and firewood run low, they must summon all their ingenuity, courage and faith to survive. Can Dorothy's optimism keep the family's hopes alive? Will they survive the punishing prairie winter?
